Tidal Marsh Ecosystem

A salt marsh is tidally influenced coastal ecosystem has acts a transition location of salt and fresh water influences.  The salt marsh has three main functions; a flood barrier, nursery and fliter.  Each function as important at the other all three need to be present to make this a healthy ecosystem.  The marsh will fill up during times of flooding, rather than the island mainland. With water moving in and out with the tide it helps filter the water to give fresh supply to our oceans.  Many marine mammals, invertrebrates, birds and fish start their lives in the tidal salt marsh.
