Beach Dune Ecosystem

The dune/beach ecosystem is known for its picturesque beauty.  Commonly referred to as the beach, this ecosystem holds within its self very resilient plant and animal life.  This ecosystem thrives on its ability to withstand a wide variety of external factors for survival.  This particular ecosystem has to withstand large temperate ranges, high salinity in the air, and very high winds. Coastal dunes are formed by small amounts of  sand that are push inward by a combination of wind and water.  This sand is then stabilized by dune vegetation, such as sea oats, and continues to grow.  You have primary dunes which are more influenced by the winds and the waves and the secondary dunes are primarily affected by the wind.
