Info: Eastern Black Racers are fast moving, very active , diurnal snakes. The feed on rodents, lizards, frogs and other snakes. You can often see these snakes in bushes as they lift their head out to view their surrouding area. These snakes do not do well in captivity as they are very active. As there scientific name this particular snake is a constrictor, which means it will squeeze its prey before eating. One of the most common snakes on property, Amelia Island Plantation has a healthy population of these snakes.
