Info: One of three pelicans found in the Americas, it is one of the most commons birds seen at the beach/dune ecosystem. The official state bird of Louisiana, the pelican is often seen diving in the ocean for its food. They can have up to a 7 foot wingspan but are still the smallest pelican of the 9 species. Its nostrils are specially designed with narrower inner nasal canal to help prevent water from coming in while diving.
