Scientific Name: Quercus virginiana 

Info: Live oaks have thick trunks, an expansive crown, and massive low growing branches.  Its has evergreen leaves that only turn brown when fallen to the ground.  Its leaves are curled to help prevent salt from entering it.  This is important with trees that are closer to the marine enviornment.  Highly valued in ship building this tree help set up one of the first tree preserves in america.  the acorns from these trees release tanins which act as a darkening agent in our local lagoons.
