Info: The most important plant in the formation of frontal dunes, this wheat like oat grows prominently on property.  This plant roots up to 25 feet deep in the sand with its extensive root system and preforms the task that rebar does with concrete.  It helps knock down plants and sand that are being washed inland by the wind and waves.  This plant provides food for nesting shorebirds and small mammals found in the dunes.  Due to its importance for dune formation many counties have devleoped ordinances help protect it.
