Turkey Oak

Name: Turkey Oak           

Scientific Name: Quercus Laevis

Info: Leaves of 3-12 inches depending on age, these leaves look similar to a turkey footprint hence the name Turkey Oak.  When fire is not present in the ecosystem this tree will take over.  The oaks flowers are called catkins and its fruit are its acrons.  These acorns provide a good food source for native mammals and birds.
